PAWS rescues and re-homes approximately 200 dogs and 700 cats annually. Many of the dogs are strays from local animal control facilities and most of the cats that we help are strays and abandoned kitties who roam our streets. A portion of the pets that come to PAWS have been relinquished by their owners, who are no longer able to care for them. PAWS has a handful of paid staff and a team of dedicated volunteers who help with everything from fundraising, kennel work, walking dogs, socializing cats, and much, much more. Every person at PAWS is a valued member of our team. Without them, we could not accomplish the miracles that happen every day! We constantly seek to increase the number of lives we can save by finding adoptive homes for the animals in our care, working closely with other animal groups, and raising funds to secure the supplies and facilities necessary for our operation. PAWS also seeks to decrease the number of unwanted pets by informing and educating the public about the importance of spaying and neutering. PAWS is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that began in 1962 by Westport, Connecticut resident Betty Long to rescue homeless dogs and place them in permanent homes. In the early 1980s, our rescue efforts were expanded to include cats. For 37 years, PAWS rented space from local boarding kennels and veterinary hospitals. Over time, the demands placed on us by the community increased and we felt that in order to increase and expand our services, we would need our own shelter. In 1999, PAWS undertook the task of building a shelter of our own. We moved into our own shelter in 2001 and have since greatly increased the number of pets we have been able to help.

PAWS is people helping cats, dogs and wild animals go home and thrive – whether home is the family room or the forest. We do this by rehabilitating orphaned and injured wildlife, sheltering and adopting homeless cats and dogs, and educating the community to inspire compassionate action for animals. Since 1967, PAWS has united more than 130,000 cats and dogs with loving families, cared for more than 140,000 sick, injured and orphaned wild animals, and made the world a better place for countless others through outreach, education and advocacy. PAWS envisions a world where all people recognize the intrinsic value of animals and consistently make choices that demonstrate compassion and respect. PAWS Core Beliefs are: The recognition and respect of the intrinsic value of animal life. The capability of animals to express their natural and innate behaviors in appropriate ways, and experience the highest quality of life possible. The right of animals to be free from cruelty, neglect, and abuse. The importance of ending companion animal overpopulation. The caring guardianship of companion animals. The preservation of wild species and their habitats. The role that all humans play in the active stewardship of maintaining the environmental and ecological balance of the earth. The consideration of the animals’ best interest when making decisions, along with consideration of the long-term consequences and the impact of our work when determining how best to allocate PAWS’ resources. The trust that the public places in us with regard to animal care and the management of our resources. People and animals are well-served when everyone gives thoughtful consideration to how their attitudes, actions, and behaviors impact the animals with whom we share the earth. Public outreach and education efforts are most effective when presented using legal and non-confrontational methods. PAWS advocates for animals by leading issue campaigns, working with elected officials, proposing animal-friendly legislation, and providing education to the public; and through the compassionate and appropriate way we treat the animals in our care. Wild animals are best served by being allowed to live undisturbed in their natural environment. Wild animals should not be owned as household pets or property. Wild animals of any kind should not be used for commercial exploitation. Companion animals should be spayed or neutered because this is the most humane and effective way to end the suffering, killing, and need for euthanasia of animals caused by companion animal over-population. Breeding that is not managed or is irresponsible contributes to companion animal over-population and is therefore opposed. Farm animals have the right to physically move about freely, to engage in their natural behaviors, and to live without imposed stress and fear. Animal-friendly diets and lifestyles are promoted because they alleviate the suffering of farm animals as well as positively impact the health of people and the environment. Cruel and inhumane research and product testing on animals promotes animal suffering. Non-animal methods for research and product testing should always be explored and used. Companion animals are euthanized only when all reasonable courses of treatment and determination of adoptability have been exhausted. Wild animals are euthanized only when there is no reasonable chance of release and survival in their natural habitats. In our role of upholding the rights of animals, we believe it is our responsibility to educate the public about the positions PAWS holds and values. NKLA (No-Kill Los Angeles) is an initiative led by Best Friends Animal Society that brings together passionate individuals, city shelters and an entire coalition of animal welfare organizations to end the killing of dogs and cats in shelters throughout Los Angeles. Now, Los Angeles, the nation’s second-largest city, is just inches away from achieving no-kill. When Best Friends launched the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) initiative in 2012, only 56% of the dogs and cats in the city’s shelters were making it out alive. But thanks to the hard work of so many, including the entire NKLA Coalition, Mayor Garcetti, Los Angeles Animal Services, our fabulous local community and devoted volunteers, we are thrilled to announce a sustained save rate of 90.49% for 2020. Led by Best Friends, the NKLA coalition has enhanced life-saving through client-service driven, high volume adoptions at the Best Friends Pet Adoption Center and NKLA Pet Adoption Center, as well as large scale adoption events; high-profile and comprehensive marketing campaigns and strategic, community-based low-cost spay/services. Best Friends is taking this collaborative model and expanding it nationwide, leading an effort to take the country to no kill by 2025. Last Chance Animal Rescue operates in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia. We take in cats and dogs from more than 50 high-kill shelters in 12 states and provide disaster-relief services for pets. We partner with more than 30 PetSmart and Petco stores in the region and provide full service in-store cat adoptions. Last Chance annually rescues and rehomes some 10,000 pets and since 1999, we’ve provided loving homes for more than 100,000 cats and dogs. We rescue animals from high-kill shelters to help them find permanent homes... We are part of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)! CFC#69822. We are one of the largest no-kill animal rescue organizations in the United States. Partnering with PetSmart Charities and PETCO, Last Chance rescues and rehomes approximately 10,000 animals a year.

Maddie's Fund offers the industry a national voice, important funding opportunities, learning resources and easy access to network connect and share ideas to keep people and pets together. Maddie was a beloved Miniature Schnauzer whose unconditional love, loyalty and spirit inspired a revolution. Dave and Cheryl Duffield founded Maddie's Fund® in 1994 to honor their delightfully feisty dog. While playing together in the living room one evening, they made her a promise: If they ever had any money, they would use it to help companion animals and the people who love them, so they could experience the same joy they had with Maddie. The rest, as they say, is history. Dave and Cheryl made good on that promise after successfully launching several technology companies. In their lifetime, they have given more of their personal wealth to animal welfare than any other individuals. All thanks to Maddie. Achieving a no-kill nation today is not only possible, it’s inevitable. This outcome however did not always seem certain. When we look back at the movement’s start in the 1970s, we can appreciate just how far we’ve come to making no-kill a reality. Conversations held 40 years ago seem absurd today. They centered on the best way to kill shelter animals rather than ways to save them. The generally accepted method was a decompression chamber, the save rate was 12%, and no one wanted to talk about it. Practices and ideas from this time included: killing all females as a method of birth control; death was considered a "kindness"; and minimal veterinary care provided in the shelters. Volunteer programs were rare. Foster care practically nonexistent. And it was believed people with jobs shouldn’t have pets. In fact, the general attitude was the public couldn’t be trusted to adopt pets.

PAWS (Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to saving Philadelphia’s homeless and at-risk pets. PAWS is the city’s largest rescue partner and provider of affordable, basic veterinary care for pet owners and rescue organizations that cannot otherwise access it. Each year, PAWS finds loving homes for thousands of animals in need, and enables thousands of families to keep their cherished pets. PAWS is working to make Philadelphia a no-kill city where every savable pet is guaranteed a home. The generosity of individual, corporate, media, and foundation supporters is amplified by a highly qualified staff, a dedicated and active volunteer base and board of directors, frequent media appearances, and widespread community backing. Support for PAWS funds lifesaving initiatives which help reduce and will ultimately eliminate the unnecessary killing of Philadelphia’s healthy and treatable pets. PAWS’ Adoption Center, in the Old City section of Philadelphia, is a shelter like no other. It houses adoptable pets in a quiet, boutique-style setting and is open seven days a week. Typically, dozens of cats live there while they wait for their forever homes. Cats live in community rooms or individual units, depending on their personality and preferences. Staff and volunteers provide daily care, exercise, and TLC, and most residents have a view of passersby and neighborhood activity. Since opening in 2008, the adoption center has matched thousands of animals with loving homes, raised awareness of the urgent need for adoption and foster care, and enabled countless people to join our mission by donating or volunteering.

To Love a Canine Rescue, Inc. (TLC) is a non-profit, all-breed, foster-based dog rescue operating in suburban Philadelphia, PA. Our mission is to rescue and find permanent homes for abandoned, stray and surrendered dogs in order to minimize the needless euthanizing of animals. Our vision is to make the right connections between our rescued dogs and families in order to give our dogs their final, happy, loving homes. TLC strives to be a valuable resource to our community by working with struggling dog owners and by providing education on responsible dog ownership including the importance of spaying/neutering, behavior training, heartworm testing & prevention, and microchip implanting. TLC was born in the spring of 2013 when our eight founding members decided they wanted to combine their collective experience in pet rescue and community service into one organization. We have a mutual passion, and a unified vision, for saving dogs as well as a thirst to educate the community on reducing the number of dogs needing rescue. At TLC, bonding with our dogs is very important. Rather than going to a shelter where they often become depressed and withdrawn, our dogs join us in our warm, comfortable homes where they thrive with attention and love. As soon as dogs arrive in our foster homes, we begin house training when necessary, and work on basic manners. Our dedicated foster families socialize and interact with the dogs to learn their strengths and understand their challenges. It is important to evaluate personality and temperament of our dogs to better facilitate placement in homes in which their needs and the family’s lifestyle and experience are in alignment. Our dogs receive an enormous amount of love and the medical attention necessary to ensure good health. TLC dogs are spayed or neutered, and brought up to date on shots appropriate for their age. They are also microchipped prior to being placed in their new homes. It is our goal to connect devoted families to loving dogs in need of their everlasting home. We believe in being very honest with our potential adopters and we present everything we learn about our rescues in order to make sure we have a successful adoption. Additionally, TLC foster families and associated trainers will work with adoptive families to ensure a smooth transition and help facilitate additional support and training that may be needed to create and maintain a stable and happy home for our dogs. From puppies to seniors, there is a perfect dog out there for everyone. We pride ourselves on making the right connection between dog and family in order to give our dogs their final, joyful, loving home. Ultimately, our wish would be for empty shelters, so no dog is left behind… until they all have a home.

I am a Zambian born, comes from a family of 8 and the youngest of the Mwila’s. My siblings always thought I was spoilt because I was the youngest, but I don’t think so! I was born in a town called Mufulira on the Copper belt side of Zambia in 1981,the Copper belt province is rich with mineral finds and Mines, hence the name. I am Married to Eric and we have a beautiful daughter called Chanda, she is 15 years. I completed my matric in 1999 and my mother advised me to study food production since I loved cooking, I did it for her though it was a course that I never dreamt of studying. I graduated successfully and worked for 2 years as a chef, got tired of cooking, I dodged that career and went into studying computers, worked as a receptionist and studied Human resources at the same time and obtained a diploma. I worked for a courier company as a Human Resources assistant. In 2012, I moved to South Africa, Cape Town when I got married, joined a Mobile Money company called Zoona with operations in Zambia, and I worked there for 5 years as a support agent. Zoona is an African Fintech company founded in 2009 with the vision of helping communities thrive. Since launching, it created over 2,500 jobs in Zambia and Malawi, empowered over 1,000 entrepreneurs to start their own business and allowed them to reach earnings of over $10 million. I enjoyed working for this company because we really helped girl child prevail. Apart from the above, I am a lover of interior designing, and my wish is to have one of the most successful Interior business one day, through my passion for interior, I designed my sister’s Kitchen area, how amazing!!! I love cooking and baking (especially Cake pops), they are my favorites!!! I love adventure, gardening and working out too, I am a gym freak. Most importantly, I love spending time with my loved ones. I reflect a varied personality, including ambition, and the qualities of generosity and thoughtfulness. I am also a well determined and vigorous individual, and yet calm. I encourage fighting for what you desire and believe in and doing it through God because nothing great comes easy. Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc. is a specialised dog rescue based in Perth, Western Australia. Servicing ONLY Perth Metro area at this point in time. Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc. is run by volunteers, and with the support and donations from very generous members of the public. Your donations go directly towards their vet bills and costs related to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing predominantly Chihuahuas and Chihuahua cross-breeds in WA. Their rescue operates a little differently than other Rescues. To minimise their volunteers time spent on people looking for the “cutest or smallest” dog, they keep a waiting list of families looking to adopt a chihuahua or chihuahua cross. They keep notes of what the family is looking for, their current situation and other factors and as the dogs come into care, they first go through this list to see if there is a suitable family waiting. If they cannot find a home on the waiting list, they will advertise this online. If they do advertise and you believe the dog would be a good fit to your household, you will need to fill out an Adoption Application. Once references are checked and the form processed, they will advise you if there are any suitable dogs. If they have a possible match, one of their representatives will go to your home and do a fence check and have a chat. This is purely to assess the safety and security of the dog. With all the paperwork and checks done, you will then meet your prospective new family member. If the meet goes well, the dog will go home with you and begin the 2-week trial. During this period, they will to assist you in any way they can to settle your new friend, but if things do not go as planned, you are able to return the dog to them, just as they are able to request the return of the dog. If the dog is returned during this trial period, you will receive a full refund or alternatively have a meet with another suitable dog. Once the trial period of 2 weeks is over and if all parties are happy, they make the adoption official. They will lodge the pre-signed microchip transfer and mail any relevant paperwork out for your new family member ready to register with your local council. All of the dogs receive a mandatory sterilization, vaccinations and microchip and all certificates and paperwork involved with these processes will also be provided to you for use in registering the dog with your local council. Part of the adoption agreement is that any dog that has come from Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc will need to be returned to them if at any stage you can no longer care for the dog. If you need any further assistance with the dog, please do not hesitate to contact them and they will endeavour to assist you in any way they can. The health and wellbeing of the dogs they rescue will always remain a priority to them. When fostering, there are many things to think about before you decide if you would be a suitable foster carer. Never forget the household you are living in; every human that will be living with the dog will need to be on board with the process for it to be successful. If you would like to proceed to apply to become a foster carer with them, they will first need you to read through the Foster Information Sheet and fill in their Foster Application Form. Once they have processed the application, if you are successful, they will need to do a home inspection to make sure the needs and safety of the dog are met. All going well, they will pre-approve you for foster and when a suitable dog needs care they will contact you. They are always looking to add superstars to their volunteer and events teams too, so even if you can’t foster – maybe you can taxi pooches to and from the vet? Or, help out cooking up a storm at one of their events, baking some treats or manning a market stall.

Here at Capricorn Animal Aid (CAA) we care about those unwanted, stray, neglected and abused animals and feel that every one of them deserves the opportunity to have a caring and loving forever home.​ Capricorn Animal Aid Organisation Inc (CAA) was founded in September 1998 when it was recognised that there was a desperate need for an organisation to meet the needs of abandoned and unwanted dogs and cats in the Rockhampton area. CAA provides care and attention (including veterinary care, shelter and food) to unwanted, stray, neglected and abused animals. CAA does not have a shelter. All animals are ‘fostered’ by generous and caring volunteers who provide a home and lots of love to the animals in their care until they find new human companions to share their lives with. CAA is not subsidised in any way. We are run by volunteers. Funding comes from the generosity of the people of Central Queensland and beyond through donations, membership and support of our various fundraising activities. CAA is a registered charity and incorporated association. Sometimes situations arise where you can no longer care for your pet. Capricorn Animal Aid take a limited number of surrenders (dependent on circumstances, finances and availability of foster carers). If you would like help rehoming your pet please fill out the application form under Surrendering. This will be assessed by the committee and a representative will contact you with a response. Please note this may take up to 7 days. As we have limited places, and receive many applications, please consider all other options such as family and friends before applying. In addition to finding new homes for Central QLDs cats and dogs, we also offer a desexing subsidy for eligible members of the Central QLD community.

As one of the oldest charities in Atlanta, Georgia, we have been caring for our community and animals for more than 148 years. I am passionate about my work. Because I love what I do, I have a steady source of motivation that drives me to do my best. In my last job, this passion led me to challenge myself daily and learn new skills that helped me to do better work. I am ambitious and driven. I thrive on challenge and constantly set goals for myself, so I have something to strive toward. I’m not comfortable with settling, and I’m always looking for an opportunity to do better and achieve greatness. I am highly organized. I always take notes, and I use a series of tools to help myself stay on top of deadlines. I like to keep a clean workspace and create a logical filing method so I’m always able to find what I need. I find this increases efficiency and helps the rest of the team stay on track. l’m a people-person. I love meeting new people and learning about their lives and their backgrounds. I can almost always find common ground with strangers, and I like making people feel comfortable in my presence. I find this skill is especially helpful when kicking off projects with new clients. A little about myself... I grew up in the Kruger National Park and spent most of my days playing with the baby animals. My favourite part of the day was going down to the rehabilitation center to feed the baby elephants. The saddest was at night, when you could here them cry for their mothers. My favourite memory occurred on a late summer night. My nephew, my brother and myself went down to the local swimming pool to cool down abit.We enjoyed a wonderful night and eventually started getting our things together to head home. Upon reaching the gate to get to the car, we realised that we were trapped inside. There was definitely no getting out for a while as a pack of wild dogs decided to inspect the car and take a nap right next to the gate. That's where my fascination with predators came along. At one point our neighbors even had a pet lioness! As you can gather, I LOVE the nature. Always expect the unexpected! I'm also an accident magnet.... I'll find that one brick that isn't level and trip over it. Once I even straight up walked into a lamp pole at Spar. The poor old lady in the car in front of us didn't know whether to laugh or ask if I was okay ! I'm very outspoken and I'm not shy to admit my faults. Basically I'm an open book. What you can't see, I'll gladly tell you all about it.

Hear No Evil Australian Deaf Dog Rescue was founded in Townsville QLD in late 2014 and was set up specifically to give deaf dogs the second chances they deserve. They are a relatively small organisation, but have very big hopes regarding the welfare of animals. 'Hear No Evil' is Australia's leading rescue and re-homing group for deaf and special need dogs. They are considered a No Kill rescue, that means they Do Not Euthanise dogs for space or because they have been in care too long, nor because they are deemed unappealing to adopt. They have a duty of care for each animal they take in as well as their carers, volunteers and the public. The only circumstances for euthanasia in their rescue occurs if the dog is considered mentally, or physically unsound, and this is only after professional advice from both a Qualified Dog trainer/behaviours AND a practicing Veterinarian. It is not a decision taken lightly, and it is never done in haste. They strongly believe in Quality of life, and give every dog in their care the best chance they can to overcome any behaviour or medical issues in order to live Happy, Healthy, Safe lives. They use positive training methods of incorporating basic easy to learn hand signals to ensure their dogs have basic manners and training prior to adoption. All of their dogs are desexed, microchipped and vaccinated before being adopted, as well as flea/tick treated and wormed while in their care. They offer ongoing support to any adopting families for life. ‘Hear No Evil’ even have a partnership with an assortment of dog trainers around the country to assist in sorting out any unwanted and unhealthy behaviours. At ‘Hear No Evil’ they don't just rescue and rehome, but provide information and advice to anyone who has a deaf dogs, and also to those people who may be interested or considering adopting a deaf dog. Hear No Evil would not exist without the tireless support of their dedicated volunteers and foster carers, but they can always use more help. Strong Hearts Cat Rescue is a registered charity based in Victoria, Australia. We rescue farmed animals, cats, dogs and rabbits. Strong Hearts Sanctuary was founded over ten years ago, by two sisters - Michayla and Jess. It started as a rescue for farmed animals, but has since expanded to become a rescue for dogs, cats and very recently rabbits as well. Strong Hearts Cat Rescue is passionate about raising awareness about the plight of farmed animals, and to educate people to see farmed animals as individuals, who seek love, warmth and comfort. We also raise awareness about the importance of adoption - both for farmed animals and companion animals. Desexing is such an important element to helping aleviate the companion animal crisis. Strong Hearts Cat Rescue is based in Melbourne, Australia. We rehabilitate farmed animals on our two properties, and prepare them for adoption. For the dog, cat and rabbit branch of our rescue, we have foster carers throughout Melbourne who care for our rescue pets until they are ready for adoption.

Paws Hoofs and Claws Inc. (PHC) was formed in 2010 by a small group of dedicated animal lovers in Mount Isa, providing fostered refuge to abandoned, abused, surrendered and orphaned animals. The group was granted Incorporation status in May 2010, and the first executive committee was introduced. This provided the organisation with a more solid foundation for forward planning, as well as a more professional and recognised status throughout the community. Since that time, the organisation has gone through many changes, with a change in executive committee, as well as the introduction of standard operating procedures, providing a more structured and formalised process for animal intake, continuum of veterinary intervention as well as a more effective way of animal tracking throughout our dedicated volunteer foster carers. In November 2012, PHC was granted the status of Donation Gift Recipient by the Australian Taxation Office. This is a huge step for the future of the organisation, allowing the organisation to receive donations as well as the application for grants. There are some exciting times ahead for the organisation, our ultimate goal is to build a shelter right here in Mount Isa to provide a higher level of animal refuge the community and surrounding townships. Paws Hoofs and Claws Inc. is recognised as a Registered Charity with the Australian Taxation Office and the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission. Their mission at Paws Hoofs and Claws Inc. is to reunite lost or found animals with their owners as soon as possible, find suitable permanent homes via their adoption process for those animals which have been abandoned or neglected, rescue animals from the local pound when they have the means, address animal cruelty issues with the help of RSPCA, DPI or the Police where possible, educate the community on the suitable care of animals including information about nutrition, safe-housing, exercise and health issues plus care and social interaction, and finally, providing initial and continuum of care to any animal that comes into their care. Paws Hoofs and Claws believe in “euthanasia-free” animal welfare and rescue. They operate under this belief by striving to find suitable homes for all animals that are brought into their care. They also believe that all animals including those abandoned and neglected companion animals have the right to sustenance and healthy lifestyles, and this they provide for all their animals in foster care with full veterinary interventions as required as well as regular worming, vaccination and animals of suitable age, desexing prior to adoption. Due to limitations of our services, they do at times have the incapability of to accept all animals that require rehoming.

Jenny’s Angels Dog Rescue, is a small team of ethical and dedicated animal lovers. They began their venture in 2016, rescuing and re-homing dogs from the local pound and surrounding country areas. Their goal was to help, rehabilitate and re-home these dogs to give them the best chance of finding the loving homes they deserve. They endeavoured to do their best for all dogs and worked with other ethical rescues to ensure the best outcomes. While working closely with their dedicated, highly experienced Animal Control officers, they re-homed over 500 dogs. They re-homed dogs and puppies of all ages, sizes and breeds that had been surrendered, seized, dumped or abandoned. After a well-earned break at the end of 2021 and reviewing their operation and mission, Jenny's Angels relaunched in 2022 with a new direction and focus to help and re-home dogs with special needs. The main focus being double merle puppies and young dogs. They made this decision in consultation with Adelaide Canine Behaviour and Training, as they have the same goals and passion to advocate for their rights to be given the chance to live the great life they deserve. Their aim is to work with rescues and owners of special needs puppies and young dogs to educate, train and re-home these special souls into their forever homes. They emphasise the importance of promoting public awareness and education about double merles and dogs with special needs. Their main focus is Double Merle and Special Needs pups and young dogs. Merle is a coat pattern found in Australian Shepherds, Collies, Shelties, and a number of other dog breeds. This particular phenotype is inherited as an autosomal, incompletely dominant trait. The merle gene creates mottled patches of colour in a solid or piebald coat, blue or odd-coloured eyes, and affects skin pigment. Animals that are “double merle,” a common term used for dogs that are homozygous (having two copies) of the merle (M/M) trait, are predominantly white and prone to several health issues. The chances of having puppies that develop health issues increase when two merles are bred together. It is recommended that a merle dog only be bred to a non-merle/non-cryptic Merle dog. Cryptic merle dogs do not appear to be merle, but contain the merle gene. Many solid dogs are actually cryptic, also known as phantom, merles and can produce both merle and double merles if not careful. Merle can affect all coat colours. Recessive red dogs can also be affected by merle, but the patches are either hardly seen or (if the dog is a clear, recessive red) are not visible at all. Combinations such as brindle merle exist, but are not typically accepted in breed standards. In addition to altering base coat colour, merle also modifies eye colour and the colouring of the nose and paw pads. The merle gene modifies the dark pigment in the eyes, occasionally changing dark eyes to blue, or only part of the eye to blue. Since Merle causes random modifications, both dark-eyed, blue-eyed, and odd-coloured eyes are possible. Colour on paw pads and nose may be mottled pink and black. If two carriers (M/m) are bred with one another, there is a 25% chance per puppy born that they will be homozygous (M/M) for the merle trait. These are also known as "double merles." A high percentage of double merle puppies have vision or hearing deficiencies. A cryptic or phantom merle is a dog which phenotypically appears to be a non-merle (solid-coloured) or a dog that has very faint patches of merle that can go unnoticed. Animals that do not present the merle phenotype may possess the merle genotype and subsequently produce merle offspring. These animals are known as cryptic merles, as they don't appear to be merle but can produce merles. Double merles are totally preventable by responsible breeding. The only way a double merle can be created is by breeding two merles. If merle to merle breeding stops, then so do double merles. Neurological issues are conditions that affect the nervous system and block or negatively affect certain nervous signals that are usually sent to the muscles. The main centres of the nervous system are the brain and spinal cord. Any condition that affects the connection between these points and the rest of the body is called a neurological disorder. These conditions are most commonly caused by diseases, injuries or other health-related abnormalities. Many health issues can be avoided with responsible breeding and education, so their purpose is to raise awareness and make a difference. They believe education and promotion of responsible dog ownership is paramount to reducing the number of "unwanted" dogs, and hope to work with others to spread the word. Their dogs are all fostered in loving homes where they experience life in a family and learn valuable lessons needed to ensure their successful transition to their new homes. All of their dogs are vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped and desexed before re-homing.

Australian Animal Rescue Incorporated (AAR) is a non-profit, volunteer run, non government organization. AAR was established in April 2009 after bush fires devastated the Gippsland, Kinglake and Marysville areas of Victoria. Spurred into action by the devastating events that were unfolding, a small group of dedicated volunteers spent 3 months rescuing wildlife and providing as much food and supplies as possible out to the effected people and animals. We at AAR differ from other rescue groups as we also specialize, not only in wildlife animals but also domestic animal rescues and adoptions. Australian Animal Rescue Incorporated operates 7 days a week and provides animal rescue and information services throughout Victoria. We also provide assistance to other shelters and disaster relief by doing fundraising throughout Melbourne.

“Rescuing Cats from the Perils of the Streets” was the original aim of the Cat Welfare Society when it was established in 1961. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated staff and volunteers over many years, we have grown to become Western Australia’s premier cat welfare organisation, trading under the name of Cat Haven. Cat Haven, WA’s largest shelter for homeless, lost and abused cats. Our vision is that every WA cat should be a well-cared for cat and we work towards achieving this by providing: shelter facilities for lost, abandoned and stray cats; a foster care program that allows sick, injured and shy animals to recover in volunteers’ homes until they are ready for adoption; and a re-homing program at the Cat Haven campus as well as through a network of 15 pet stores across the metropolitan area. Cat Haven takes in over 8,000 cats and kittens every year and has a zero euthanasia rate for treatable re-homable cats. We have over 700 members, employ 55 staff and are supported by 71 volunteers who assist at the shelter and over 800 volunteer foster carers. Cat Haven’s core business is not only about improving the welfare of cats and kittens but also about improving the lives of people in the community and protecting our environment. Our rescue and surrender services ensure stray and unwanted cats are properly cared for and placed into suitable new homes, rather than being ‘dumped’ on the streets. In this way, we help reduce the stray and feral cat population and all the problems these can create for people, as well as protecting native species. Our re-homing services help people find a cat or kitten that suits their lifestyle, thereby helping individuals and families gain the benefits of owning a companion animal. In addition to these services, Cat Haven run a number of community programs including: Free emergency cat boarding for people in crisis, Companion cats in residential aged care facilities, Subsidised sterilisation and microchipping.

Pawfect Pals Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to rehoming companion animals who can no longer remain in their current situation, as well as those facing the threat of unnecessary euthanasia. Our team is made up of outstanding and knowledgeable volunteers, who work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and find the very best forever homes for each animal in our care. All of our animals live with a foster family while they wait for that special someone to come along. This means they get to experience life in a loving home, and we get to know them inside-out! During this time, they receive all necessary veterinary treatment, including desexing, microchipping, vaccinating and worming. Though we sometimes like to think our dogs are absolutely perfect angels who could do no wrong, sometimes their behaviour doesn’t reflect that image… Having a professional dog trainer assess and tailor a plan for you and your dog is highly beneficial, whether you have an issue that needs fixing or just want to make sure you’re on the right track to success with your new dog. A trainer can help with a multitude of things, like settling in a new dog, improving their loose lead walking and stopping them jumping on strangers, right through to more intensive behavioural modification for things like separation anxiety, reactivity and resource guarding.

Don’t Go Astray help’s animals in need, giving them the second chance, they deserve. They assist with veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, fostering and re-homing of animals that just want to be loved. The organisation was formed in June 2018, and within six months was honoured with the RSPCA Humane Award – a huge deal for newcomers, and this encouragement has galvanised their passion and commitment. Born through the compassion and drive of their founder, Kylie, Don’t Go Astray Inc. strive to help animals by making sure every animal has a chance at a happy, healthy life, no matter the cost, no matter the odds. An organisation run by vet nurses tired of seeing animals left untreated and left without a home because of financial burdens, they endeavour to rehome stray and surrendered animals and assist in getting animals the medical care they need by raising the funds they require and finding them the medical professionals they need. All of this is only possible through your support and generosity. Driven by a shared desire to make a positive impact, their team’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of surrendered and stray animals. Each member of Don’t Go Astray comes from the veterinary and animal rescue industry, pooling a broad range of complementary skills. Together, their aim is not just to care for animals, but to provide assistance for people unable to meet the financial cost of emergency veterinary care. Their mission is to support stray & surrendered animals in need with Veterinary treatment, Rehabilitation, Foster Care and Adoption. Every animal deserves a second chance and a Forever Home. 2nd Chance Cat Rescue is a registered Australian Charity (ABN: 66 448 752 266) and not-for-profit organisation run solely by volunteers in the south-eastern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne. It was started in July 2011 with the purpose of re-homing de-sexed, vaccinated and microchipped cats and kittens to good homes. 2nd Chance Cat Rescue has successfully socialised and re-homed many feral/stray and abandoned kittens. We have found that even the most apprehensive or timid animals can become wonderful companions if enough quality time is spent with them and our carers go to great lengths in doing so. All potential owners are screened using a comprehensive questionnaire designed to ensure that the cat(s) or kitten(s) are suited to their new environment and owners before leaving 2nd Chance Cat Rescue. Potential adopters will also have a preliminary phone call with one of our foster carers before a potential 'meet and greet is organised'. Matching the right cat with the right home is always the most important element in any adoption!

‘Til The Cows Come Home is an Australian not-for-profit animal charity that was founded in 2018. They rescue unwanted, unviable, "waste" farmed animals, rehabilitate them in short term foster care and rehome them into safe, forever-loving homes as companions. They help all animals. Any animal born on agriculture farms that are unwanted or considered waste and whose fate will otherwise result in death. They take in these animals, care for them in foster homes and adopt them out into families to live out their lives as companion animals. If an animal is born on a farm and develops a disability, injury or illness they will take in these animals to treat them in their foster homes to give them the best chance of survival or allow them to pass peacefully and safely. Whether goats, horses, pigs, alpacas, sheep or even an entire herd, they help families rehome animal(s) which they can no longer care for. They help by finding the animals safe and loving new homes. To date they have helped transform the lives of over 4,000 farm animals. They have taken their experience and networks to assist families in rehoming animals on their properties, when they can no longer care for them. ‘Til The Cows Come Home, is predominately made up of volunteers, and they rely on the kindness of public donations to keep their mission going. The work they do, is making a lasting change to the lives of the animals they help. They are the voices for the forgotten, and they hope they can inspire others to not only share their stories but make more compassionate choices. They transform the lives of unwanted farm animals through rescuing, rehoming and promoting a kinder world. They give a voice to farm animals by telling their stories and inspiring change. Their Vision is to Create a more compassionate world where farm animals are viewed as companions, not commodities.

Cairns Animal Rescue was established in 2019. Since our inception, our group of passionate volunteers have managed to assist over 1,200 dogs, through rehoming and medical care. We are here to assist dogs in need across North Queensland, from the Torres Straits in the North, to as far south as Charters Towers. We are a dedicated group of volunteers who provide the highest level of care in a foster home environment, allowing us to assess each animal and ensure they meet their perfect forever family. Our foster dogs join our own dogs, cats and children and become immersed in our family – helping them become a great family member for you! Adopting a rescue dog is a very rewarding experience. Not only are you gaining a new family member, but you’re rescuing an animal from less-than-ideal circumstances. We like to think they appreciate their new family more when they’re a rescue.
