PetRescue is a national animal welfare charity like no other. We help save thousands of lives every month by looking at the big picture, disrupting the status quo and finding innovative tech solutions to the biggest challenges facing rescue pets in Australia. We were disruptors before ‘disruption’ became an overused buzzword. In 2004, we launched the first national pet adoption website to help rescue pets, who may otherwise go unnoticed, find a new family to love for life. Today, our free programs and services help millions of Australians discover the joy of adopting a new family member and help more than 1,000 rescue organisations, shelters and pounds save the lives of thousands of rescue pets. We have a vision of a future for Australia where every pet is safe, respected and loved. And to get us there, we’ve developed a mission that looks at the bigger picture, drives social change and unites to save lives. Thanks to your kind support, we’re able to create positive solutions to the biggest issues and challenges that rescue pets face across Australia by looking at the big picture, leveraging digital innovations and driving social change. We’ve created an environment where the best talent in animal welfare, technology and marketing can use their knowledge and expertise for good, and we’re extremely proud of the team that drives our mission today. Building strong industry relationships with some of Australia’s biggest brands has enabled us to give rescue pets greater reach and bring more benefits to grassroots community rescue organisations.

Pawfect Pals Animal Rescue is a not-for-profit organisation, dedicated to rehoming companion animals who can no longer remain in their current situation, as well as those facing the threat of unnecessary euthanasia. Our team is made up of outstanding and knowledgeable volunteers, who work tirelessly to rescue, rehabilitate and find the very best forever homes for each animal in our care. During this time, they receive all necessary veterinary treatment, including desexing, microchipping, vaccinating and worming. Though we sometimes like to think our dogs are absolutely perfect angels who could do no wrong, sometimes their behaviour doesn’t reflect that image… Having a professional dog trainer assess and tailor a plan for you and your dog is highly beneficial, whether you have an issue that needs fixing or just want to make sure you’re on the right track to success with your new dog. Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc. is a specialised dog rescue based in Perth, Western Australia. Servicing ONLY Perth Metro area at this point in time. Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc. is run by volunteers, and with the support and donations from very generous members of the public. Your donations go directly towards their vet bills and costs related to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing predominantly Chihuahuas and Chihuahua cross-breeds in WA. Their rescue operates a little differently than other Rescues. To minimise their volunteers time spent on people looking for the “cutest or smallest” dog, they keep a waiting list of families looking to adopt a chihuahua or chihuahua cross. They keep notes of what the family is looking for, their current situation and other factors and as the dogs come into care, they first go through this list to see if there is a suitable family waiting. If they cannot find a home on the waiting list, they will advertise this online. If they do advertise and you believe the dog would be a good fit to your household, you will need to fill out an Adoption Application. Once references are checked and the form processed, they will advise you if there are any suitable dogs. If they have a possible match, one of their representatives will go to your home and do a fence check and have a chat. This is purely to assess the safety and security of the dog. With all the paperwork and checks done, you will then meet your prospective new family member. If the meet goes well, the dog will go home with you and begin the 2-week trial. During this period, they will to assist you in any way they can to settle your new friend, but if things do not go as planned, you are able to return the dog to them, just as they are able to request the return of the dog. If the dog is returned during this trial period, you will receive a full refund or alternatively have a meet with another suitable dog. Once the trial period of 2 weeks is over and if all parties are happy, they make the adoption official. They will lodge the pre-signed microchip transfer and mail any relevant paperwork out for your new family member ready to register with your local council. All of the dogs receive a mandatory sterilization, vaccinations and microchip and all certificates and paperwork involved with these processes will also be provided to you for use in registering the dog with your local council. Part of the adoption agreement is that any dog that has come from Perth Chihuahua Rescue Inc will need to be returned to them if at any stage you can no longer care for the dog. If you need any further assistance with the dog, please do not hesitate to contact them and they will endeavour to assist you in any way they can. The health and wellbeing of the dogs they rescue will always remain a priority to them. When fostering, there are many things to think about before you decide if you would be a suitable foster carer. Never forget the household you are living in; every human that will be living with the dog will need to be on board with the process for it to be successful. If you would like to proceed to apply to become a foster carer with them, they will first need you to read through the Foster Information Sheet and fill in their Foster Application Form. Once they have processed the application, if you are successful, they will need to do a home inspection to make sure the needs and safety of the dog are met. All going well, they will pre-approve you for foster and when a suitable dog needs care they will contact you. They are always looking to add superstars to their volunteer and events teams too, so even if you can’t foster – maybe you can taxi pooches to and from the vet? Or, help out cooking up a storm at one of their events, baking some treats or manning a market stall.

Cheltenham Cat Rescue is a registered animal welfare charity organisation, with deductible gift recipient status. Our focus is on the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of cats across Melbourne. Cheltenham Cat Rescue (CCR) commenced rescue operations in June 2015. After fostering for a number of years with other wonderful rescue organisations – and learning about the companion animal issues across Victoria and Australia – CCR founder Natasha thought she could add further value by setting up her own rescue organisation, the idea being to assist in the rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming of cats within the Melbourne community. Working collaboratively with other rescue groups, councils and pounds across Melbourne, Cheltenham Cat Rescue focuses on rescuing homeless cats and kittens in need. Homeless doesn’t always mean the pound, though. Whilst it is true that many of our cats can come from the pound, we also receive calls from members of the community regarding homeless cats wandering onto their property as well as calls for help from people who can genuinely no longer care for their cats, for one reason or another. We are an all-breed cat rescue organisation, staffed entirely by volunteers and funded only by public donations. All funds raised go straight back into helping the cats and kittens in our care. Our survival as an organisation relies on the network of our volunteer foster carers, who assist in the provision of temporary homes whilst forever homes are found. Without these carers, rescue organisations like CCR would cease to exist. All cats/kittens rescued are fully vet worked before being rehomed. We are not a shelter and as such, we do not have a centralised location. All adoptions take place via an adoption application process, the aim being to find the purrfect match between human and feline. We believe that all breeds of cats deserve loving and caring homes and any medical care necessary to ensure the best possible quality of life, regardless of their age or condition. Through our work, we also seek to educate the community on responsible companion animal guardianship, holistic cat health care management and the dire situation of thousands of healthy cats and kittens being euthanised everyday in Australia… and what can be done to prevent this from happening.

All of our animals live in loving foster homes throughout the Perth metro area until they are adopted by their forever families. While at WA Pet Project we operate an adoption program for cats and dogs, our vision is a world where animal rescues don’t need to exist. We love our foster pets, but what we love more is pets living in their homes. Forever. Our aim is to help the community become great pet owners through various education programs, online resources and veterinary care programs. Because we believe success will come from addressing the cause, not only the issue.

We have hundreds of foster carers all over Perth who care for the dogs until they are ready to move to their forever homes. We are always in need of foster carers to love and care for dogs of all ages and sizes. Along with finding new homes for dogs, we also rescue dogs that don’t have much time left. Rather than leave them to live out the rest of their life in a pound alone, they live with a “forever foster” carer and remain in the rescue until it is their time. They will only know love and kindness and will receive all vet work needed to make them as comfortable as possible.

“Rescuing Cats from the Perils of the Streets” was the original aim of the Cat Welfare Society when it was established in 1961. Thanks to the efforts of dedicated staff and volunteers over many years, we have grown to become Western Australia’s premier cat welfare organisation, trading under the name of Cat Haven. Cat Haven, WA’s largest shelter for homeless, lost and abused cats. Our vision is that every WA cat should be a well-cared for cat and we work towards achieving this by providing: shelter facilities for lost, abandoned and stray cats; a foster care program that allows sick, injured and shy animals to recover in volunteers’ homes until they are ready for adoption; and a re-homing program at the Cat Haven campus as well as through a network of 15 pet stores across the metropolitan area. Cat Haven takes in over 8,000 cats and kittens every year and has a zero euthanasia rate for treatable re-homable cats. We have over 700 members, employ 55 staff and are supported by 71 volunteers who assist at the shelter and over 800 volunteer foster carers. Cat Haven’s core business is not only about improving the welfare of cats and kittens but also about improving the lives of people in the community and protecting our environment. Our rescue and surrender services ensure stray and unwanted cats are properly cared for and placed into suitable new homes, rather than being ‘dumped’ on the streets. In this way, we help reduce the stray and feral cat population and all the problems these can create for people, as well as protecting native species. Our re-homing services help people find a cat or kitten that suits their lifestyle, thereby helping individuals and families gain the benefits of owning a companion animal. In addition to these services, Cat Haven run a number of community programs including: Free emergency cat boarding for people in crisis, Companion cats in residential aged care facilities, Subsidised sterilisation and microchipping.

The RSPCA subscribes to the "Five Domains" model developed by Prof David Mellor and Dr Cam Reid in 1994, which outlined a way to identify and grade the severity of different welfare issues. By examining the physical and functional factors of nutrition, environment, health and behaviour and how they impact on an animal's mental state, the welfare status of an animal could be determined. This model was based on the Five Freedoms for animals. Freedom from hunger and thirst by providing access to fresh water and a balanced diet to maintain full health. Freedom from discomfort by providing a safe environment, shelter and a comfortable resting place. Freedom from pain, injury and disease through prevention, rapid diagnosis and treatment. Freedom to express normal behaviour by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal's own kind. Freedom from fear and distress by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.

Pet Rescue & Adoption Service was formed to help save cats and dogs of all ages from unnecessary euthanasia and situations of abuse and neglect and we also take surrenders of pets from people for a variety of reasons. We also take in many kittens from all walks of life. In some cases, we may sterilise the owned mother when we take the kittens. We respect and support other rescue organisations and strive to be part of the total process of freeing our companion animals from suffering. PRAAS is a self-funded, not-for-profit organisation. All work is done by unpaid volunteers. All vetwork & most food, toys, equipment etc are paid by the Rescue owner. The remainder is paid by the Carers. All transport fuel is paid by the owner, carers & other volunteers. Our rescued pets live as fosters in a home environment. Each might live with a family, a single, cats, dogs, other animals, children etc & it will be included on their profiles in which kind of environment they are known to be comfortable. All cats live inside only; where possible, this includes a secure outdoor run. They are also fed a very high quality, nutritious diet, as I believe that this is part of basic care for our loved pets. We require our adoptive families to have the same attitude towards their new pet's nutrition and to feed them similar quality food. A vital part of rescue involves desexing every animal that passes into our care and education of the importance of this process to members of the public with whom we come into contact. No animal will be adopted without first being microchipped, vaccinated and either desexed or with a paid certificate for desexing at the appropriate size. Desexing is THE key to the total well-being of our pets and the value that people place on them. Only in rare circumstances will desexing not occur e.g. if the animal is elderly or frail & it is advised by the vet to be unnecessary or dangerous. Once our rescued pets are healthy, desexed and have had all the necessary work according to current legislation, they will be offered to the public for adoption. New families will be carefully selected. All animals are adopted with the expectation that finally, this will be their lifelong home.
